Who is tracking you online? The answer is not one person. It is a whole data chain: websites, ad platforms, app SDKs, ISPs, device systems, data brokers, and even content you publish yourself. Your digital footprint has active and passive parts: the active part is what you post and submit; the passive part is behavior, device, and connection data collected in the background.[1]
The danger comes from stitching. A single cookie may not be alarming, but an email address, phone number, location, device fingerprint, and purchase history can form a very specific personal profile.[2]

Active footprints come from you: posts, comments, uploaded photos, forms, public resumes, and phone number bindings. Passive footprints come from systems and services: IP addresses, browser type, location permissions, device ad IDs, cookies, and time on page.
